Wonderful First Day

on September 9, 2015

Wow! What a great first day! I can already tell we are going to have an awesome year. We started our day with a morning meeting. Here is our message from the first day.

After, we read a story called “The Night Before First Grade.” It was a great way to compare kindergarten to first grade. We also talked about things that make first grade special.

We learned how to use many of our first grade tools today including our crayons and pencils. We did an activity to practice using our crayons. It was also a great way for me to see how well the first graders listen, follow directions, and are able to write their names and other words.

After completing our work we did a museum walk to see all of our fantastic work.

After lunch we had quiet time. We made our first quiet time choice. This is a great time to get our brains and bodies ready for afternoon learning.

In math we explored pattern blocks. It was great to see how the first graders could make new shapes and create designs.

We ended our day with jitter juice! We read a story about a boy who was nervous, or had the jitters about first grade. We read a poem about jitter juice and even collected data to see how many first graders like jitter juice.  How fun!

These first graders are going to be so much fun! I can’t wait until tomorrow!
