Monday’s Highlights

on November 11, 2014

During our read aloud today we practiced making visualizations to help us analyze the main character from “A Bad Case of Stripes” by David Shannon.

We practiced reading and building words ending with -nt, -nk, -nd, and -ng.

I am switching things up a little bit I’m the way we work on words. Our whole group phonics lessons this week will be on the sounds above. These lessons are quick and are words that the typical first grader should be able to spell. They are also the words listed in the Friday newsletter. During Daily 5 and guided reading, the first graders will work on words at his or her own level. They will come home on Monday on a sheet that looks like one of these.

The words will come home on Monday and each first grader will be checked informally on the spelling of these words by the end of the week. Here are some first graders practicing their words today.

Anders’ mom was our mystery reader today! So fun!

We practiced solving subtraction problems in math.

And finally Aubrey shared her poster. She did a fabulous job!

Have a great night! Remember to pack all your winter gear for recess tomorrow!
