Fantastic First Day

on September 3, 2014

Wow! What a wonderful first day of school! I can honestly say that today was one of the smoothest first days I have ever had in my 10 years of teaching! Here is a recap of our day.

We started with a morning meeting. We greeting each other, shared our favorite color, and went over our plan for the day. Here is our morning message today.

We read the book The Night Before First Grade. After reading we compared first graders to kindergarteners.

We explored a special tool that first graders use everyday, crayons! This was a great way for us to review how to use our crayons responsibly. It was also a great way for me to see how well the first graders write, color, and follow directions.

During math we discussed what we want to learn in math this year and recorded our responses on the smart board. We also explored pattern blocks. We had to share, work together, and use our math skills.

We ended our day our day with a fun poem about a way to calm our first day jitters with jitter juice and even enjoyed a tasty drink!
There was a lot of parent homework in the red take home folders. Please go through the folder and return any papers. Also, send a healthy snack with your first grader tomorrow. Many first graders like to have a water bottle to keep at their desk also if they get thirsty. Have a great night!
