First Day

on September 4, 2013

We had a fun and busy first day! Was your first grader as tired as I am tonight! 🙂 Here is a peek of just some of the things we did today:

We started our morning with a morning meeting. Here are our rules that we will follow every day at our morning meeting.

We being our morning meeting with a greeting, followed by sharing, and a song or activity (today we sang BINGO) and we end our morning meeting by reading our chart.

After a bathroom break, we enjoyed a read aloud. We read the story “The Night Before First Grade.” After reading, we compared first graders to kindergarteners. We also talked about how we felt the night before first grade.

This morning we also took some time using our crayons. We discussed how we can use our crayons in first grade. We discussed how crayons are a learning tool and how we can take care of them. We then took time to practice using our crayons. We had to write our name, draw some lines, draw a picture, and then do a free choice.

We ended the day with a book and poem about Jitters and even made some First Day Jitter Juice.

A lot of “parent homework” was sent home today in your child’s red take-home folder. Please return the papers in your child’s take-home folder tomorrow. Also, we have snack everyday at 2:00. Please send a healthy snack with your child. Have a good night! 🙂
