Monday’s Events

on October 1, 2012

Today was a busy and productive day.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • During our read aloud we learned the good readers read with proper pacing and expression.  We learned to pay close attention the ending marks of sentences in order to read with the proper expression.  I modeled fluent reading with proper pacing and expression by reading Mo Willems book The Pigeon Wants a Puppy.
  • We learned our new spelling words.  We practiced building -ick and -ack words.
  • We learned the 5th part of Daily 5, Listening to Reading.  We have 4 ways to listen to reading in B3: 2 CD players with books on CD, a NOOK, and our classroom computer.  We also got to choose what we wanted to do during Daily 5 today.  During Daily 5 I met with a guided reading group.  I was not only impressed with how hard my group worked, but also how independent the rest of the class was.
  • In math we learned about addition problems.  We learned how to show our work using circle drawings.  Our math stations this week focus on addition facts, review the concept of even and odd, and we will also work in our math journals.
  • In social studies we learned about the concept of needs and wants.  We learned that needs are things we need to survive like water, food, clothing, and shelter.  We learned that wants are things we don’t need like toys, pets, or candy.  Tomorrow we will learn more about the concept of scarcity.

It was a fantastic day in B3!  I can’t wait until tomorrow! 🙂

One last thing!  Here is a document to go with Mrs. Paton’s lesson this week.Home%20Link%204 copy 2
