Writer’s Workshop

on September 12, 2012

Today was our first day of Writer’s Workshop.  The goal for the beginning of the year in Writer’s Workshop is that the first graders see themselves as writers.  Today we talked about writing about things we know best, ourselves!  The first graders either wrote or sketched about an event from their lives.  Here are our writers hard at work.

Besides Writer’s Workshop we also are building our stamina for reading to self during Daily 5.  We read for 13 minutes today!  That means ALL the first graders read independently for 13 minutes without talking.  It was amazing!

Ms. Robyn read us the book Caps for Sale.  While reading this silly story we learned that good readers make sure they understand what they are reading by checking for understanding.  We check for understanding by asking questions like Who? What? When? Where? and Why? during reading.

In math we found the partners for 4 and completed the math stations from yesterday.  We are becoming very independent workers during both Daily 5 and Math Workshop.

After phy. ed. with Mrs. DeMar we continued working on our “ME” project.  They are going to look so great when they are all finished.

Have a wonderful night!
