Thursday’s Events

on April 6, 2012

We had a very busy day on Thursday.  Besides having a spelling, sentence, and math test we also did many other things.  During our read aloud of “Little Bear Goes to the Moon” we practiced individually retelling the story using a retelling graphic organizer.  I was so impressed with the first graders’ ability to retell the story in their own words!

We also had a 2 mystery readers today, Seth’s mom and dad!  Mr. and Mrs. DeRusha read us the story “Born to Read.”  The first graders enjoyed the story.  Thank you Mr. and Mrs. DeRusha for reading to us!

In science today we did an experiment called “The Liquids Race.”  Before we had liquids race we made a prediction about what liquid would be the fastest.  Here are our predictions.

We put a dot of white glue, water color paint, and poster paint on the race track.  We lifted the paper up and observed which liquid was the fastest and slowest.

After the race we realized the more viscous the liquid was the slower it was.  The watercolor paint was the least viscous so it won!

Madison and her liquid race.

Next week we will learn about gases and will also learn how solids and liquids can change.

Enjoy your long weekend! 🙂
