Busy Day!

on October 27, 2010

We were very busy today.  Here are just some of the things we did!

  • We learned a new activity in Morning Meeting. It is called “Cheer on the Champion!”  It was a fun rock, paper, scissors game where we had to cheer each other on.
  • We read a non-fiction story entitled All That Corn. We sequenced the story after we read it.  Good readers are able to sequence, or retell a story after reading.
  • We learned a new accuracy reading strategy.  If we get stuck on a new word we can use the reading strategy of Lips the Fish.  We say the first sound of the word and then read the rest of the sentence.  After reading the sentence we go back to the word we were stuck on and try a word that would make sense.
  • We learned our new sight words for this week.  They are: buy, where, very, & that.  In order to be fluent readers we must know our sight words.
  • We had a mystery reader today.  It was Ella’s mom!  It was fun to listen to the 2 stories she brought to read to us.
  • We learned about our skeletal system today in science.  We learned about why our bones are important and even learned the names of some of our bones.
  • We also practiced our addition facts.  We got to choose the way to practice that was best for our learning style.  We could choose from flashcards, a worksheet, or domino math.  Look at the pictures below of us practicing addition equations.

Kenzie and Steve used dominos to practice addition.

Talib practiced addition by using flashcards.

  • Simeon and Ruby practiced learning addition equations with a worksheet.
