As you probably heard, I had to be gone this afternoon because I did not have anyone to watch Mia. Usually my mother in law watches her on Thursdays, but she had to go to an out of town wedding. But Mia also is sick. She is fussy, stuffy nose, and sleepy. I spent the afternoon taking care of her. The first graders had a wonderful morning. We added a poem to our poetry journals, practiced reading to someone (our stamina is up to 9 minutes!), practiced our spelling words, read a shoebox book to improve our reading fluency, and shared our cats for short a week. We talked about fluency today when we are reading. Fluent readers read smoothy and with expression. We said that if we want to be fluent readers we have to be voracious readers. See of your first grader can tell you what voracious means!
